Read up on what is currently making the news in golf with Jim Byrne. The former KCOY Weatherman enjoys playing golf with friends as a means to stay fit and healthy.
Tiger Woods just made his debut at the Valspar Championship of the PGA Tour. Last year’s tournament was won by Adam Hadwin from Canada. At the top of this week’s leader board is Chris Couch, followed by Martin Flores and Beau Hossler. This is Couch’s first appearance at Valspar since August 2012. He was last seen in action at the 2012 Wyndham Championship but had to withdraw because of a wrist injury, says Jim Byrne. The former KCOY Weatherman is excited to see how Tiger Woods fares at the Innisbrook Resort’s Copperhead course.
The HSBC Women’s World Championship has come to a close. Congratulations to Michelle Wie for closing round 65 by one stroke over Danielle Kang, Brooke Henderson, Jenny Shin, and Jessica Korda. Wie is now up 12 spots in the Rolex Rankings at No 14. She is the 4th-ranked American on the list, after Lexi Thompson who is at No. 2; Cristie Kerr at No. 9, and Jessica Korda at No. 12. Wie sank a long birdie putt, showing why she’s at the top of putting average with 26.45.
In other news, Shubhankar Sharma will be making his first appearance in the Tournament. Sharma has accepted a special invitation by no less than Fred Ridley, Chairman of Augusta National Golf Club and the Masters Tournament. Sharma won the Joburg Open in December and the Maybank Championship last February and finished T-9 at the WGC-Mexico Championship. He is the fourth Indian player to compete in the Masters, after Jeev Milkha Singh, Arjun Atwal, and Anirban Lahiri. The Masters is the talented 21-year old’s first major championship appearance, shares Jim Byrne. The former KCOY Weatherman wishes him good luck and to enjoy every moment at the Masters fairways.
